One of the oldest streets designed in the Grand Modell, Meeting Street takes it name from the White Meeting House of the Congregational Church. It runs north to south and formed the boundary of the walled city. In addtion to residenses, the South Carolina Society Hall, First (Scots) Presbyterian, two museum houses and a hotel are located on Meeting Street. Historically Meeting Street included some corner stores as well.
At present, the grand historic houses along this street date from the 18th and 19th centuries and represent a broad range of architectural styles. As with much of our city, around every corner, block, or street, there is history and many stories to tell.
