Principal Cello Anthony Ross joined the Minnesota Orchestra in 1988, and assumed the principal cello post in 1991. He has been a featured soloist many times with the Orchestra, performing concertos by Schumann, Dvořák, Victor Herbert, James MacMillan, Beethoven, Saint-Saens, Elgar, and Shostakovick, as well as chamber works.
Away from Orchestra Hall, Ross is an active chamber musician, festival performer and educator. He is a member of Accordo, a chamber group composed of the Minnesota and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestras’ principal string players, and also performs with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota. His recordings include Bernstein’s Three Meditation with the Minnesota Orchestra, the George Lloyd Cello Concerto with the Albany Symphony, and works of Rachmaninoff and Elliott Carter for Boston Records.
At this event, along with Kenwood Symphony Orchestra, he will be playing Antonín Dvořák’s last solo concerto, the Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104, B. 191 During the concert, Kenwood Symphony Orchestra will also welcome the Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble on stage for a performance of Ottorino Respighi’s Pines of Rome.
