“24 Trumpets”
Featuring the
Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble
Directed by James Olcott
Thursday, November 17, 2016
Enjoy the vibrant sounds of The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble’s 24 trumpeters as they perform classic and modern works in the beautiful Ives Auditorium. The concert will feature classic works by Gabrieli, Bizet, Verdi, Mussorgsky, and modern works by Goedicke, Balmages, and Olcott. “Even When He Is Silent,” written by Kim André Arnesen and transcribed by James Olcott, is based on a moving poem found scratched on a wall at the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The evening will be punctuated by a performance of jazz selections by the TCTE Jazz Ensemble.
The Twin Cities Trumpet Ensemble (TCTE) was founded in 2014, when James Olcott, professor emeritus of trumpet at Miami University (Ohio), and two colleagues got together for an evening of trumpet playing and camaraderie. Over the following four months, the group grew to 12, then 16, then to its present size of 24 select trumpet players from throughout the Twin Cities region. From within the group there are two smaller trumpet ensembles and a jazz group of eight trumpets and rhythm section. The ensemble is, on occasion, further augmented by percussion and low brass.
