King Street was named for King George I of England. It was originally called “The Broad Path” or “Broad Road.” Located on a high ridge, in the early days it was the main thoroughfare to enter the city. Houses along the southern end of King Street are noted for their elegance and charm and include some of the most notable examples of the Charleston Single House.
