Doors Open: 7:00 PM
The universally renowned and acclaimed Mariachi Vargas De Tecalitlan, with special guest Yolanda Del Rio, will perform one night only at The Riverside Theater.
Internationally acclaimed as “the best mariachi in the world,” the group comes to The Riverside, with special guest, Yolanda Del Rio, for a rare Milwaukee-area appearance.
Today the group is composed of two trumpets, one harp, one vihuela, guitar, guitarron, guitara and seven violins.
In 2010, the Houston Grand Opera turned to the ensemble’s legendary leader, Jose “Pepe” Martinez, to write the score and collaborate with librettist Leonard Foglia in creating the world’s first mariachi opera, “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” (“To Cross the Face of the Moon”), which premiered to sold-out houses in Paris, Houston, Chicago and San Diego! In 2015, the new Mariachi Opera with the same creative team premiered, “El Pasado Nunca Termina” which was equally successful.
One of the most successful ranchera singers, Yolanda del Río was born in Pachuca in Hidalgo state. Del Río began singing as a child, and performed on radio and at festivals and eventually sold almost 20 million records around the world, capturing a Grammy Nomination in 1984
