In WorkshopSF’s Watercolor Painting and Mixed Media class, working artist Lana Kohn will teach you no less than SEVEN different techniques utilizing watercolors and mixed media to build your artistic arsenal and juice your creative noggin! She will begin by teaching you how to paint with different watercolors; this will provide the foundation for the class and your new master work. Lana will provide short lessons on technique, brushes, and color to get you started. She will then lead you down the artistic rabbit hole, showing you how to create trippy effects by experimenting with dripping/splattering techniques, using stencils + Elmer’s glue to create embossing effects, working with colored pencils and wax crayons to add text and lettering, and much more... Once you have a basic command of these versatile techniques, you will be given plenty of time to try out several of these new techniques on your own. And don’t worry... Lana will be there to guide, answer questions, and reel you in should you stray too far! This class will conclude with a lesson on mounting, flattening, and finishing your new, custom artwork, so that it may be preserved, prominently displayed, and ultimately gushed over by your friends and loved ones!
WARNING: This is NOT one of those lame SIP and PAINT classes where you drink Merlot, listen to Ed Sheeran, and group paint a serene, California sunset! There are plenty of art bars in Marin that can hook you up with that!! Come prepared to get a little splatter-happy and super creative in this class! (You may consider wearing old clothing that can take a hit of watercolor paint or two...)
Supplies Needed: None! We will take care of all supplies, including all paint, brushes, media, practice paper, and actual professional paper. However, please feel free to bring additional paper, scraps, or perhaps items with a soft surface that you would like to experiment on!
Instructor Bio: Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Lana Kohn grew up among paints and pencils. Once she realized that art was her passion, Lana obtained a bachelor’s degree in the Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting and printmaking from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Lana’s work has been shown in various galleries and art spaces around the Bay Area. She has also worked with other members of the art community including DSF, FactionArt and Wonderland Gallery, curating art exhibitions and pop up events.
