You can thank the iPhone for single-handedly extinguishing the need to ever utter the phrase "I wish I had my camera right now!!" It’s allowed us to capture stunning natural scenery, extravagant spreads of food and libations, amazing concert stills, and of course, the selfie in the bathroom mirror. But if you’ve done the regular ol’ iPhone camera point-and-shoot to death, then let’s ratchet up your image capturing acumen with some next level iPhone photography skills! In this class, professional photographer Sarah Deragon will teach you how to combine basic principles of good photography with a select grouping of camera phone apps to create some truly amazing photos!
First, you will learn some basics of good photography, including lighting and composition, and how they are utilized to produce a solid photograph. Second, you’ll learn best practices for photographing your friends, be they the two-legged or the four-legged variety! After that, Sarah will run a friendly little photo portrait challenge so you can pair up with another student, practice shooting portraits, and get some instant feedback on your work. Last, you will dive into a few camera apps such as Instagram and AfterLight to learn how to further improve your images. Sarah will offer insights on her own general workflow for getting photos processed, posted, and stored. She even has some stellar tips for developing your photos into actual, physical, yes-you-can-touch-it prints! She will close the session with an open Q&A so you can ask about anything that needs a little extra detail.
Supplies Needed: Make sure that your phone is fully charged, and that have both Instagram and AfterLight apps installed. You do NOT need to own an iPhone specifically... Androids or other recently released camera smart phones should work. (But don’t bring in that busted flip phone from last decade thinking you’ll walk outta here the next Diane Arbus...)
