Doors Open: 7:00 PM
Doors Open: 7:00 PM
Presented by The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's Liquid Music Series and The Current
Throughout the 2015-16 season Liquid Music tracked the artistic collision of two innovative ensembles: Berlin’s vibrant and forward–thinking s t a r g a z e and hometown favorites Poliça, internationally renowned for their “dark conviction” (Pitchfork) and “beautifully melancholic” (The Guardian) sound. Dubbed a “renegade new classical ensemble” (Boiler Room), s t a r g a z e was founded by prominent European conductor André de Ridder and has become known for its focus on collaboration, specifically with artists and ensembles who work with dissimilar musical language and materials. This unparalleled transatlantic partnership culminates with a performance at the historic Fitzgerald Theater, marking s t a r g a z e ’s U.S. debut.
About Poliça
Drawing elements from Portishead, Bon Iver, Fleetwod Mac, and Eurythmics, Poliça is a group featuring chanteause Channy Leaneagh, Ryan Olson, Chris Bierden, Drew Christohpersen and Ben Ivascu.
About s t a r g a z e
S t a r g a z e are a bunch of people who have been trained and worked in classical and classical contemporary music and are getting more excited each day by what's going on in contemporary pop/folk/electronica and uncategorizable genres in and around those confines. They have decided not to wait for the institutions to come round and recognize this but are just "go" and starting to use their network and knowledge, tastes and abilities to facilitate performances of existing projects in these realms of extended instrumental line-ups with bands and their artists/composers as well as foster and workshop new collaborations
