Learn the basics of screen printing, from burning an image onto a screen to transferring that image onto a surface (paper, fabric, undies, perhaps?) You will coat a screen, burn it using a vacuum exposure unit and how to use a press (tabletop and tee shirt press). There are over 18 water soluble ink colors for you to use in your printing. You will work with our house screens, which include rad images such as fun phrases, spirit animals, popular graphics and many to choose from. You will walk out of this class understanding the basics of ONE COLOR printing. You will have the knowledge to print at home, at Workshop for additional screen printing classes, or other printing spaces in the city. We supply several cool papers, patches and have some fun things for sale that you can print on (such as tees, totes and koozies). This class is a great starter class, but it is not to be substituted for a multiple-week, intensive course. It will review the basics and give you some hands-on experience with screen printing. This class includes one hour of instruction/demo and two hours of time to print, work with the instructor on pulling images, explore, and get creative! THIS CLASS ALSO INCLUDES A FREE TOTE BAG OR TEE SHIRT YOU CAN CHOOSE IN CLASS.
Since screening can be complicated, with alot of equipment & screens are expensive (as well as easy to ruin), we make this class a great starter class. In this class we INCLUDE YOUR OWN SCREEN. In class, you will be using your screen, as well as can use our house screens which have multiple images and vary all the time. Again, this is a intensive starter class that deals with darkroom and screen prep over 5 hours so expect to have some fun, print some fun postcards, art prints and more using our screens and get a great base. Printing is something that takes time to learn, so dont expect to come out with your own tee shirt line here. Its a great introduction to it and the fun part, that takes some practice- the printing. Graphic design and burning your own screen yourself are things you can find in multi week classes at other facilites. As in any printing, it is messy and involve cleaning your screens after you use them- so please skip any prada and dress comfty, at time you can get wet.
Supplies Needed: none, but feel free to bring extra fabric, paper, canvases, pillowcases, aprons, t-shirts or other goodies if you would like to screen Workshop images onto them to take home. we do offer limited items for sale that you can purchase to print.
Important Stuff: PLEASE NOTE OUR 48 HOUR CANCELLATION AND REBOOK POLICY. This applies to gift certificates and any form of purchase. All classes are for adults 18 and over, brewing 21+. Though we love kids- we design our space to be for adults only & our rock and roll tastes- we have a lot of things around Workshop that are inappropropriate for kids/ teens. If youd like to bring your child or teen to class with you we do occasionally make special exceptions but please email us before you sign up or keep an eye out for our occasional teen/ kids classes we do offer. Please be sure to buy a ticket as classes sell out in advance and waiting list spots are rarely open. Walk ins are not encouraged as were usually sold out.
